Why we keep coming back to brand identity work
Marmalade Visual Studio is a small brand identity practice, run by MARMALADE INTERIORS LTD, and we have settled deliberately on one kind of work: the marks, colours, type and small printed pieces that hold a business together as it grows. We are not a general design agency taking anything that comes through the door. The narrower the focus, the more we notice, and the better the work tends to be.
Most of the people who come to us are at a turning point. A shop is opening a second site. A workshop has outgrown the name it started with. A founder has a folder of half-finished logo attempts and no clear idea which one is right. That moment is the one we enjoy most, because the decisions made then set the tone for everything that follows, on a website, a sign, an invoice or a paper bag.
The work starts with conversation, not a moodboard. We ask about the people you serve, the words you use about yourself and the things you would never want to look like. From there we sketch, test typefaces at real sizes, and put together a small number of directions rather than a wall of variations. You get colour values, type settings and files you can hand to a printer or a sign maker, with notes explaining the thinking so it stays useful after we step back.
We are equally happy with a single-piece job, a logo refresh for a business that has been trading for years, or a fuller identity with stationery, packaging and a simple set of guidelines. If you are not sure which of those you need, that is a reasonable thing to say in an enquiry, and we will help you work out the scope before anyone talks about cost or timing.
